About indexing projectsWhat is indexed?
Indexable pages do not include the bibliography and other front or back portions of the book unless you specify that you want them included. Depending on the project tables, maps and illustrations, footnotes and endnotes may or may not be indexed. How is page count determined? The industry standard for a “page” is 250 words. To figure out your page count, divide your total word count by 250. What I need from you: Accurate pagination is required to produce an accurate index. I will work from a PDF of the text in the final proof stage, after page numbers have been assigned. Alterations to the flow of the text will invalidate page references requiring parts of the index to be redone. If this is necessary, additional hourly charges may apply. I take pride in the indexes I produce and want you to be happy with the result. I will provide up to two hours at no charge for editing or formatting corrections. A style sheet, if available, also will be helpful. |

"Cynthia Col prepared the index for Esoteric Buddhism and the Tantras in East Asia (E. J. Brill, 2010), a compilation of eighty-eight essays by forty-one scholars. The volume has a massive unified bibliography and thus presented considerable challenges with regard to consistency. Cynthia was a delight to work with, very professional, and an enthusiastic collaborator. Her quick and efficient turn-arounds helped us to meet our deadlines. What's more, her facility with Asian languages and her great attention to detail gave us what amounted to another proofreader. She saved us from innumerable errors and inconsistencies. I recommend her work without reserve!"
